A Red Shoe Fundraiser in aid of Breast Cancer Care
TENNISWOODSTOCK is the first official fundraiser organised by Red Shoe Events. However, it comes with a long support history and deep-rooted reasons behind the choice of charity.
Sharon is a two-time breast cancer survivor – she’s a tough cookie that one – and Alex lost her father to cancer, so this charity is very close to the hearts of the people who are themselves the heart of RED SHOE EVENTS.
So… A mini festival with a cause… A celebration of music … A fun day out in one of the most beautiful venues in the North East – what else could we wish for? Sunshine perhaps? Well fingers crossed… It is August after all, so we can’t say it’s entirely wishful thinking…
Under 12s are free if accompanied by well-behaved parents. There will also be a silent disco in the drawing room and a few select jewellery and clothing stalls for you to peruse (a donation from all sales will be added to our funds). For anyone travelling to and from Newcastle we can arrange transport at £10 (one way) or £20 (return); please let us know when purchasing a ticket if you require this service (pick up and drop off in Forest Hall or Jesmond or Newcastle). Alternatively there are lots of B&Bs in and around Newton if you want to make a night of it.
Running order:
Doors 4.30pm; Martin Stephenson 6:30pm, Jason Isaacs 8pm, Raffle & Auction 9pm, Ray Harris 10pm, DJ to Close; Carriages at Midnight

A few words about our performers:
MARTIN Stephenson has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for more than 30 years. His latest album, CALIFORNIA STAR sees him reunited with The Daintees, the band he has intermittently fronted through a string of albums – and hundreds of gigs – since his teens in the North East. Always popular on the circuit, Stephenson’s “must see” live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation. The Daintees’ critically acclaimed 1986 debut BOAT TO BOLIVIA opened up an always interesting story. It showcased Stephenson’s songwriting, poetic romanticism and spiritual depth – so marking him out as a soulful cream of the leftfield crop during the self-obsessed 1980s. Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch on a varied mix of musical styles was immediately apparent. His path was destined to be a lifelong journey through the music he loved: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.
‘Martin’s a sensitive man with a beautiful soul and a big smile making gorgeous music’ Janice Long BBC
‘Given time the Stephenson songs will warm you down to the bone marrow’ Q Magazine.
‘Martin’s beautiful music and good vibes have been part of my radio programming for close to 30 years. His enthusiasm and warmth infuse everything he does. Long may he run’ Bob Harris BBC
RAY Harris is a talented keyboardist from Glasgow who successfully manages to blend dance floor jazz with Latin vibes, a touch of funk & soul, and Brazilian sounds coming directly from the 60’s and 70’s. He won the “Brewin Dolphin” newcomer award in 2008, and together with The Fusion Experience has opened for the late godfather of soul James Brown.
And last but not least…
If you love the sound of a big band and you live in Newcastle, you will certainly know the name JASON Isaacs. He’s been a fixture on the local jazz scene for the past 10 years and is known as much for his energetic performances as his velvety voice. Regulars will also know that no Jason Isaacs performance would be complete without his trademark sax solos and dubious one-liners, not to mention those ‘dance moves’! In the words of Lance…
