Great news SupperClubbers! We are pleased to announce a new addition to our SupperClub on Tour…it’s Hawthorns Brasserie!
It’s a relatively new restaurant in the area, it’s situated inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Stephenson Quarter. For those of you who are not that familiar with every corner of Newcastle, the Stephenson Quarter is the up-and-coming area right behind Central Station, which has recently seen the interest from the foodies of the Toon grow, because it is where The Boiler Shop Steamer usually takes place.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel is located just next to it, you can’t miss it, and Hawtorns Brasserie is just past the Hotel’s main entrance – Elegantly furnished, bright and modern.
A few days ago yours truly Red Shoe Girls went down for lunch, had a chat with the events manager Rachel and had the priviledge to try a few of the dishes from their current menu. I know, I know, our job is a tough one sometimes, but oh hey, someone has to do it 😉
The menu has been designed by the Executive Chef Chris Wood who likes to define it “North British cuisine”, who also makes sure that all the ingredients they use are always fresh and locally sourced. In fact there’s a section in the menu dedicated to the local suppliers and produce with lots of interesting information.
There’s no other way to tell you folks…the food was great, and I mean REALLY REALLY great! We were both blown away from how it was presented – absolutely eye-pleasing combination of colours and shapes – to how it tasted – so incredibly rich in flavour!
Here’s what we had:
The Flash Fried Salt & Pepper Squid with Aioli and Lime Cheeks, was prefectly crispy.
The Spiced Lettuce Cups with Green Lentil & Shitake Mushroom, Fresh Chillies, Pickled Mouli, was spicy and refreshing at the same time, with the added extra exotic flavour from the mushrooms.
The North Sea Crab Courgette Spaghetti, with Avocado Pesto, suitable for vegetarians, was a hearty and filling choice, perfect if you crave something tasty for a quick healthy lunch, and don’t wat to exaggerate.
To finish in perfect “Italian” style, we had an espresso macchiato (they use Ouseburn Coffee) and we indulged in a superb West Yorkshire Rhubarb Cheesecake that looked so pretty, we didn’t want to ruin it by digging our spoons in.
With such a talented Chef and tasty menu, we were absolutely convinced we wanted to have them on board… and we did!
The date of the next SUPPERCLUB ON TOUR at Hawthornes Brasserie is set for WEDNESDAY 10th August.
We hope to see you all there! Expect variety, unsual recipes and a great atmosphere!
